Engineering a freeform shell façade with laser-scan surveys.
Turkish Presidency Symphony Orchestra Building
In 2019-2020, as part of the new Turkish Presidency Symphony Orchestra Building, engineering and modelling services were required of us.
The scope of the project was the façade for the freeform ovoid structure, which had a height of 31.5 meters (~103 ft.)
We, as MBY, designed the free-form façade shape to cover the existing reinforced concrete shell. The detail engineering for the brackets have also been completed, with the use of laser-scan surveys of the shell.
The façade had to be compatible with the deviations and errors of production at site, also considering the complexity of the free form shape.
Rhino and Grasshopper were used to engineer all tessellation, optimization, and preperation of fabrication drawings works of free-form structure.
